Conversations Virtuoses
Chaumet
The conversation with Three Virtuosos aimed to showcase Chaumet’s preeminent craftsmanship by displaying works done by artisans celebrated in Japan and worldwide. The exhibition was held in Sankei-en, a scenic setting spanning about 175,000 square meters across three valleys along the Yokohama coast. Three chapters were designed to highlight the concept of “the work accomplished by human hand”—each serving as a conversation between the high jewelry and the artisan’s work. The first chapter highlighted Chaumet’s flexibility and strength through a collaboration with a bamboo master Chikuunsai IV Tanabe, expressed by a monumental tailor-made art creation where the jewelry was nestled inside. The second chapter calls attention to Chaumet’s variety of gemstone cuts by presenting 3D printed bonsai pieces along with bonsai trees grown by Bonsai Master Masahiko Kimura. The last chapter was dedicated to Chaumet’s masterful goldsmithing. A display of the most precious Chaumet pièces d'orfèvrerie stood in an iron sand zen garden with Tamahagane, facing a curated katana selection by Sadanobu and Sadatoshi Gassan.
