Le Reel Merveilleux by
Jean-Michel OthonielBonpoint
During his solo exhibition at Hara Museum in Tokyo, French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel brought children into the museum to let their creativity run wild. The artist intended to convey the joy of materializing children’s imaginary ideas through drawing. While children enjoyed a traditional drawing session using coloured pens reminiscent of Othoniel’s other work, they were excited by a hands-on approach which used Augmented Reality. Specially developed software allowed children to “touch” the original illustration by Othoniel and manipulate it digitally. Through trial and error, kids explored and learnt the process of giving tangible form to an idea.
