Element tells the story of the oyster’s pearl. The space is adorned with 180,000 pearls suspended from the ceiling, arranged in a lunette dome reminiscent of an oyster’s shell. The shell is the beginning of the pearl’s formation—its creation is the result of the oyster defending itself from ocean particles. This setting allowed viewers to immerse themselves within the strings of pearls as if they were inside the shell itself. As guests ventured further into the exhibition, they were presented with a faceted mirrored room with infinite reflections, as if trapped inside the facet of diamond stone. This room celebrated one of Tasaki’s unique achievements—being the only Japanese jeweler to be certified as a diamond cutter. Further exploring the theme of fundamental elements, Food artist Ayako Suwa provided cuisine inspired by the essential characteristics of the pearl while Berlin DJ Acid Pauli also deconstructed and remixed a chronicle of 60 years of Japanese music.
