Evening Conversations
Van Cleef & Arpels
As an offshoot of L’ecole de Van Cleef & Arpel’s based at Place Vendome, which aims to share the culture of high jewelry through both history and goldsmithing sessions, the ‘Salone’ in Tokyo was organized to bring creators from various disciplines to exchange their ideas. For each salone, two creators that seem to have nothing in common were challenged to talk about a single theme. Architect Sou Fujimoto and creative director of the jeweler Nicolas Bos each shared their approach to building architecture and composing jewelry, which share many similarities in their processes. Japanese jazz pianist Makoto Ozone and an art historian specializing in the art nouveau movement were challenged to discuss the influence of art nouveau on music. A gemologist from Van Cleef & Arpels and chef Joel Robuchon shared their ideas about diamonds and truffles. Each evening gave the audience an intriguing insight to two totally different disciplines, while still maintaining a shared essence throughout the discussion.
